Dr Franck Zal has built his scientific reputation on his expertise in the field of respiratory pigments belonging to marine invertebrates. After 15 years of fundamental research at the CNRS, Franck Zal founded Hemarina in 2007. He is the author of dozens of international patents, over 130 publications and more than a hundred presentations at scientific conferences, as well as a book entitled ‘Un trésor sous le sable’ published by Les Arènes. He is currently Chairman of Biotech Santé Bretagne, a member of the supervisory board of inserm Transfert and VP Regenerative Medicine on the board of Atlanpole Biothérapies. Franck holds a PhD in Oceanography from the Université Pierre-et-Marie-Curie, Sorbonne University, supplemented by three years' post-doctoral work at the University of Santa Barbara in California (UCSB) and the University of Antwerp in Belgium. He also holds an Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (Sorbonne University) and an Executive MBA (Rennes School of Business). He has won numerous awards and distinctions, including the GALIEN 2023 prize, and is a Knight of the Order of Merit and Maritime Merit.
